Shortlist

Christian Gansch is a highly respected conductor and renowned management coach. A brilliant communicator, Gansch inspires audiences with his insightful, innovative and unconventional addresses as he compares communication, motivation and leadership in organisations with an orchestra.

With "Many Voices - One Sound" he explores how people can maintain their individuality and work together to create "one sound" and achieve the corporate goal. Interwoven lessons, learned from his experiences as a conductor, highlight why it is important for people to listen to, and co-operate with each other,  to know when it is their time to lead and when they should follow. He shows how getting the communication, motivation and leadership balance right creates an environment in which innovation and excellence can flourish.

Christian Gansch was born in Austria in 1960 and studied piano and violin at the Hochschule in Vienna. From 1977 to 1981 he was leader of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and often performed with them as a soloist. From 1981 to 1989 he was a member of the Munich Philharmonic.

He has worked as a conductor with numerous orchestras including the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Hallé Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra London, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France, the Orchestra of the Teatro La Fenice, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the RTE National Symphony Orchestra, the Ulster Orchestra and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Since 2000 Christian has been a regular guest conductor of the Russian National Orchestra. He also works regularly with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales; in 2003 he made his first appearance at the Proms with them which was televised by BBC 4.

Between 1990 and 2003 Christian Gansch worked as a producer for Deutsche Grammophon and has produced 190 CDs which have gained numerous awards in Europe as well as four Grammy Awards in the USA.

With two distinct perspectives of the musical world, as a musician and as a manager, he has been able to create a unique coaching concept, which demonstrates the similarities between orchestras and company structures. Christian Gansch compares these similarities and shows what companies can learn from the complex structures in orchestras, which from the outside look like a perfect unit to the audience. Orchestras with their high potential for human conflicts, leadership issues and complex integrated communications are a perfect example of how to bring a huge variety of specialists and instruments together to form one integrated harmonious unit.

Since 2003 he has worked as a consultant for a number of major companies with direct reference to communication and orchestral consciousness.

He has published two books on leadership.
