Jack Dee

Born in Petts Wood and brought up in a family with a history of musical entertainers and mental illness, he left a Winchester comprehensive to start a career in catering. Realising his dour persona got more laughs than respect in the restaurant business, he followed up the advice of numerous colleagues and customers and took to the boards. That was in 1988 and Jack Dee has not looked back since.

 

He is now the host of Radio 4's long standing comedy panel show "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue", following in the footsteps of the legendary Humphrey Lyttelton. He also started the whole Live at the Apollo phemomenon (it was originally entitled Jack Dee Live at the Apollo) and tours regularly. 

 

Away from stand up, he has had acting parts in The Ambassador, The Grimleys and Silent Witness as well as appearing in Lead Balloon, Josh and Bad Move. In the West End he appeared in Art.

Jack is no stranger to awards himself (in 1991 he won the British Comedy Award for Best Stage Newcomer, and was nominated for the Perrier Award in Edinburgh). He's gone on to pick up further British Comedy Awards, while his John Smith's Bitter commercials won a British Advertising Award. 

Jack has co-written and starred in two of his own sitcoms; four series of the marvelously funny Lead Balloon for BBC Twoand two series ofthe hit ITV show Bad Move.

In 2009, Jack replaced Humphrey Lyttelton as the chairman of the widely adored BBC Radio 4 “antidote to panel games,” I’m Sorry, I Haven’t a Clue.

Jack is also the author of a compelling, bestselling autobiography, Thanks for Nothing,and the hilarious agony uncle book What Is Your Problem? which was published in 2021.

Recent credits include the host of Have I Got News for You(BBC One), Jack Dee’s HelpDesk(BBC Two), The Apprentice: You’re Fired (BBC Two) and starring as Geoff in three series of the hit BBC series JOSH(BBC Three).

Jack is currently on tour with his new stand-up comedy show Off TheTelly.

In the corporate market he's an assured host and comedian, but trying his best to avoid national treasure status!
