Shortlist

Jonathan's reputation as a compliance practitioner and trainer resulted in his being elected Regional President for the East Midlands & Lincoln region of The Chartered Institute of Securities & Investment (CISI) in 2009, and again in 2011 which he still holds. He is also an external consultant to the CISI.

He is passionate about the importance of education in financial services, presenting to fund managers on anti-money laundering, anti-Bribery Act, anti market abuse and advising clients on their broader compliance requirements. He has trained The Fundamentals of Compliance for The Compliance Institute, lectured to undergraduates and post graduates on the importance of financial services education and explained the possible causes of the 2008 financial crash to sixth formers.

Jonathan's early background in law was as a para litigation assistant in a small general practice of solicitors.  Whilst working there he was also studying and obtained an Honours Degree in Law. He joined a practice in the West End of London, where he advised commercial clients in relation to contentious matters, which included appearing before Practice Masters in The High Court.

Prior to entering financial services in 1997, he taught for three years, first at Chigwell (HMC) Independent School and then at a mixed comprehensive school in London teaching Law and Politics to A Level.

In 2000 he began working as a compliance consultant, and in 2005 founded JW Compliance Ltd (JWC), a consultancy specialising in providing compliance, risk and training services to firms authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority. The majority of JWC's clients are discretionary fund managers with funds under management ranging up to over $2.5 billion.

Jonathan's energetic, interactive and engaging style makes him an interesting after dinner speaker. He has spoken both in his role as local President of the CISI and at Rotary Club and RoSPA events.

He has written for industry journals such as Compliance Institute's "The Gazette" and leading financial crime publication "Fraud Watch". He has also written for local press on his love of advanced driving and has appeared on local radio.

Jonathan describes himself as nothing more than a professional communicator and problem solver, able to manage both people and situations by utilising his rare mix of experiences from Law, Teaching and Compliance backgrounds.
