Tim Hames is a specialist in the intersection of politics and business. He began his career as an academic at Oxford University, focusing on American politics and UK government. He then transitioned to journalism at The Times, where he served as an Assistant Editor, chief leader writer, and weekly political columnist, frequently overseeing the newspaper's overall editing. During this period, he developed a keen interest in the rise of China and the internal workings of the Chinese Communist Party.

Following his journalism career, Tim became the Head of Communications and Public Affairs, and later the Director General, of the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (BVCA). At BVCA, he engaged with members ranging from major firms like Blackstone, The Carlyle Group, and KKR to smaller venture capital firms, gaining extensive knowledge and networking within the corporate community.

Today, Tim is a writer, speaker, speechwriter, consultant, and senior adviser. He works with some of the world’s largest financial institutions, leading professional service providers, and tech start-ups with the potential for unicorn status and transformative societal impacts. He is also a co-founder of Acuti Associates, which specializes in advising on domestic and geopolitical risk.

In 2022, he co-authored *The Long Shot: The Inside Story of the Race to Vaccinate Britain* with Dame Kate Bingham. The book was serialized in The Daily Mail and The Mail on Sunday, became a Sunday Times business book bestseller, and was recognized as a "Best Book for Autumn" by The Times, a Financial Times science book of the year, and a Money Week politics book of the year. The paperback edition, which includes additional material on future pandemics and strategies to address them, is now available.
