Born in Stirling, Scotland on 16th November, 1942, it took a while for Wilie to take off in racing. He readily admits that in the early days he thought of quitting. However, he plugged on with the determination that was so evident in his energetic riding style. Willie was definitely the punter's pal as he gave all horses a ride.

Willie Carson

A successful jockey who was given just 6 months to live when he was diagnosed with cancer. But after chemotherapy he returned to racing, most famously winning the Grand National on Aldaniti in 1981. His incredible story of courage and endurance was portrayed in the film Champion.

Equestrian. An all time great who won his 50th international 3-day event in 2012. He has represented GB for 17 years and was the first British rider to reach world rankings. Has Olympic team silver at Athens and London 2012.

John Francome MBE

The greatest jump jockey of all time - 18 times champion jockey who has won the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Champion Hurdle, Queen Mother Champion Chase, King George V1 Chase and the Grand National. In November 2013 he recorded his 4,000th win.
